If you run a 10–200 person shop around Cleveland, Akron, or Canton and you've decided it's time to do something real about AI, you have four realistic kinds of help available. We're one of them, so read this knowing who wrote it — but we'd rather you pick the right option than pick us wrongly and tell everyone it didn't work.
Option 1: MAGNET — the region's manufacturing growth nonprofit
MAGNET (the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network) is Northeast Ohio's affiliate of the national Manufacturing Extension Partnership. It's a nonprofit, it's been serving the region's small and midsize manufacturers for decades, and its services run from operational excellence and automation to workforce development and Industry 4.0 adoption, including AI-driven data systems.
When MAGNET is the right call: you want a broad look at your operation — growth strategy, workforce, automation roadmap — from an institution with public backing and deep regional relationships. If you've never had outside eyes on your operation at all, start there.
Where it fits less well: nonprofit engagements move at institutional speed, and a roadmap is not the same as a working tool your team uses on Tuesday. Plenty of shops leave a great assessment on a shelf.
Option 2: The big consultancies
Accenture, Deloitte, and their peers do real manufacturing AI work — at a scale designed for companies with eight-figure technology budgets. Engagements typically start in six figures, and a 40-person job shop is not the client those teams are built around. If you're a $100M+ operation with an IT department, they belong on your list. If you're not, you'll get the B-team or no team.
Option 3: Your IT provider
Your MSP keeps email running, backs up your server, and answers the phone when the network dies — genuinely valuable. Some are adding "AI services." Ask one question before signing anything: have they ever improved a quoting, routing, or documentation workflow — or do they manage infrastructure? Those are different trades. An MSP that knows your network does not automatically know your travelers.
Option 4: Independent specialists (this is us)
Small firms that do one thing: put AI to work on a specific workflow inside a specific business. Ours is a fixed-price 30-day pilot — pick one workflow (quoting, job routing paperwork, ISO 9001 document control), test AI on it with your own people and your own data, and decide with evidence whether to scale or stop. $4,500 introductory, on-site, in plain English.
When a specialist is the right call: you already know roughly where the pain is, you want a working test rather than a strategy document, and you want one accountable person you can call or text.
When we're the wrong call — honestly: if you need a plant-wide automation roadmap, ERP selection, or robotics integration, that's not a 30-day AI pilot; go to MAGNET or an engineering firm. If nobody in your leadership has an hour a week to give a pilot, no consultant of any size can fix that. And we publish no case studies yet, because we won't fake them — if you need a stack of manufacturing references before talking, we're not there yet and we'd rather say so.
The cheat sheet
- Never had outside eyes on the operation: MAGNET first.
- $100M+ with an IT department: the big firms will return your calls.
- Network and infrastructure needs: your MSP — but don't confuse that with workflow AI.
- One painful workflow, want proof in 30 days: a specialist. We'd like to be the one, and the first conversation is free either way — call or text (216) 999-5765.
- Not sure AI is even under control internally: run our free AI Exposure Check first — five minutes, no email needed.
