Reframe before you solve
The first framing of a problem is rarely the best one. Collect three before picking a direction.
Here's my problem: [problem]. Before proposing solutions, give me three different framings of what the real problem might be — including one where the problem is upstream of where I'm looking. Say what each framing would make me do differently.
Why it works
Solutions inherit the frame they were asked in. Changing the frame changes the whole solution space — cheaply.
